ABOUT
About Chippewa Valley Kangals
Chippewa Valley Kangals is a small, purpose-driven breeding program located in Wisconsin, dedicated to the preservation and responsible placement of the Kangal dog. Our focus is on producing sound, stable dogs with correct temperament, structure, and working ability, while prioritizing health and long-term suitability over volume or convenience.

We do not breed frequently, and we do not breed for trends or mass placement. Each litter is planned thoughtfully, with careful consideration given to pedigree, health testing, temperament, and the future role of every puppy produced.

Our Philosophy
Kangals are a serious livestock guardian breed with a long history of independent decision-making, territorial awareness, and protective instincts. They are not a breed for every home, and we believe responsible breeding includes being selective about where puppies are placed.
We view every puppy as a lifelong responsibility. Placement decisions are made with the needs of the dog in mind first, and not all inquiries will be approved. We reserve the right to decline placement without obligation to explain.

Health, Structure, and Temperament
Our breeding dogs are evaluated for health, structure, and temperament appropriate for the breed. We place strong emphasis on stable nerves, correct guardian instincts, and sound movement, as well as responsible health testing.
Puppies are raised with intention and structure, receiving age-appropriate care, socialization, and observation to support confident, stable development. We take the time to evaluate each puppy as an individual and do not place based on color, size, or convenience.

Placement & Expectations
Our Kangals are best suited for experienced homes, working placements, and rural properties with appropriate containment. This is not a breed for apartment living, urban environments, or impulse decisions.

We expect prospective owners to:
Have realistic expectations of a large, independent guardian breed
Be prepared for proper containment, training, and long-term management
Understand that Kangals mature slowly and require ongoing commitment
We are selective by design and unapologetic about maintaining high standards for our dogs and their future homes.

The Next Step
Prospective homes interested in a Chippewa Valley Kangal puppy are invited to complete our Puppy Inquiry Questionnaire. This allows us to better understand your experience, environment, and goals, and helps ensure the best possible match for both puppy and owner.
General inquiries without a completed Puppy Inquiry Questionnaire may not receive a response.

We value thoughtful, committed homes and look forward to connecting with those who share our respect for this remarkable breed.
